Is it actually worth it?
There is a shortage of Bay Area bars where you can hold an actual conversation at 5pm, and The Quail & Vine is my answer to that problem. Low ceilings, soft light, a playlist that stays under the talking.
Half-price by the glass across the entire list is unusually generous — most places discount two forgettable pours. Here you can drink a serious Barolo or a chilled Beaujolais for the price of a house pour elsewhere. The staff are patient and will let you taste before committing.
The cheese board is well-chosen and properly tempered — not straight from the fridge, which is the tell of a place that cares. The baked camembert is decadent and easily shared between three. Charcuterie is good but the cheese is the reason to come.
