The Alley Wine Bar With No Sign

I found this because I took a wrong turn looking for parking and saw light spilling out of a doorway that had no name on it. Nine seats, one guy behind the bar, a chalkboard with six wines on it. I have brought exactly four people here and made all of them promise not to post it, which makes writing this feel slightly treasonous.

Why It's Special

There is no menu you take home and no wine list you photograph. You tell him roughly what you like — I usually say 'something orange and a little weird' — and he pours you two ounces to try before committing. It is the least intimidating wine experience I've had in a city full of intimidating wine experiences.

What to Eat

What to Eat

There's a tin of good conservas, some bread, and a hunk of cheese. That's it, and that's correct. Get the mussels in escabeche and a second piece of bread.

How to Find It

It's down the alley off the main street, past the laundromat, black door on the left. Open Wednesday through Saturday from about 6pm until he decides to close. Cash and cards both fine. Do not bring a group of six.
